4.Investment case at publication
Shopify’s merchant toolbox has muscle beyond the storefront
Subscriptions and commerce services give Shopify complementary ways to earn money, while operating profit offers a clearer business signal than headline earnings.
Shopify’s appeal lies in serving merchants across selling channels and offering the tools around each sale. Growing revenue, a stronger operating margin and cash generation support that model, but product-level contributions remain unreported.
Revenue and operating margin improved against the same fiscal quarter of the prior year.
Non-operating income makes headline earnings a less direct measure of commerce-platform performance.
Cash generation and liquid resources support investment, while merchant demand and service execution remain central business risks.
5.Latest quarter
In the reported fiscal quarter ended June, Shopify generated more revenue and a higher operating margin than in the same fiscal quarter of the prior year. The business retained more operating profit from its sales, rather than relying on revenue growth alone.
Reported diluted earnings also rose against the same fiscal quarter of the prior year. However, substantial non-operating income means the headline earnings result should not be read as a pure measure of merchant-platform performance.

| Reported revenue | Q2 2026 | $3.58 bn |
| Annual revenue growth | Q2 2026 | 33.7% |
| Reported operating income | Q2 2026 | $0.49 bn |

6.The business
Shopify provides a commerce platform primarily for small and medium-size businesses.
We like Shopify’s ambition to be the merchant’s working toolkit, not just a place to build a storefront. Bringing online selling, physical retail, payments and shipping into the same commercial relationship is a compelling opportunity. Its strongest opening is to become more useful as merchants run more of their business through the platform.
Subscription solutions provide access to selling tools across channels, including stores, social networks and marketplaces. Merchant solutions add services such as Shopify Payments, Shopify Shipping and Shopify Capital. This creates complementary sources of revenue, although the reported figures do not show their individual contributions.
7.Growth
Revenue in the reported fiscal quarter ended June increased against the same fiscal quarter of the prior year. It also exceeded the preceding fiscal quarter, although the same-quarter comparison is the more useful check on seasonal performance.
The consolidated figures do not identify how much growth came from subscriptions, payment services or other merchant products. They therefore support a stronger overall revenue base, not a claim about any particular product’s adoption or pricing.

8.Profitability
Operating margin measures the share of revenue left after operating costs. In the reported fiscal quarter ended June, it improved against both the same fiscal quarter of the prior year and the preceding fiscal quarter.
That supports the case that Shopify can expand while retaining more operating profit. The available statements do not explain the improvement through product mix or individual expense categories, so neither should be credited without further evidence.

9.Earnings
Massive’s consolidated statements show non-operating income as a substantial contributor to the reported fiscal quarter ended June. Net income consequently provides a broader, and less direct, picture than operating income of the commerce business.
Diluted earnings per share improved against the same fiscal quarter of the prior year, but the nature and repeatability of non-operating income are not established here. Operating profit is the cleaner starting point for assessing day-to-day performance.

10.Cash flow
For the reported fiscal quarter ended June, operating cash flow increased against the same fiscal quarter of the prior year. Gross cash purchases of property, plant and equipment declined against that same period. Cash remaining after those purchases also increased.
For the trailing twelve months ended June, operating cash flow substantially exceeded gross cash purchases of property, plant and equipment. This supports financial flexibility, but the resulting measure is not issuer-defined free cash flow.
Massive’s cash-flow measure excludes property sales, intangible investments, leases and noncash commitments. Limited gross equipment spending should not be mistaken for Shopify’s total investment in its platform and services.
| Metric | Period | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Cash generated by operations | TTM 2026-06-30 | $2.38 bn |
| Cash after investments | TTM 2026-06-30 | $2.35 bn |
| Cash generated by operations | Q2 2026 | $0.66 bn |
| Building and equipment investments | Q2 2026 | $0 bn |
| Cash after investments | Q2 2026 | $0.65 bn |

11.Balance sheet
At the June quarter-end, cash and short-term investments provided a substantial pool of liquid resources. The reported fields showed no current borrowings or noncurrent debt and capital lease obligations.
Together with operating cash generation, those resources support funding capacity without evident reliance on the reported borrowing categories. They do not establish the absence of all liabilities or commitments. Shopify Capital also makes merchant financing an area where funding needs and credit exposure deserve scrutiny.
| Metric | Period | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Cash and readily available funds | 2026-06-30 | $1.66 bn |
| Short-term investments | 2026-06-30 | $3.29 bn |

Watch whether revenue growth continues alongside healthy operating margins. A product-level breakdown would help establish whether Shopify is deepening merchant relationships through subscriptions and complementary services.
The material risks are dependence on merchant activity, competition for commerce services and execution across payments, shipping and financing. Future evidence should clarify service economics, financing exposure and investment beyond gross equipment purchases.
