Broadcom Q3 2026 Results: Broadcom’s Cash Engine Is Brilliant—but the Entry Is Unforgiving
Custom AI silicon and infrastructure software are producing exceptional economics, yet the valuation and customer-linked risks argue for patience.
The latest quarter
- Revenue
- $29.59 bn Q3 2026
- Revenue growth YoY
- 85.5% Q3 2026
- Operating income
- $15.96 bn Q3 2026
- Operating margin
- 53.9% Q3 2026
- Diluted EPS, GAAP
- $2.68 Q3 2026
The latest fiscal quarter strengthens the business thesis: revenue surged, operating profitability expanded and reported earnings improved. This is growth reaching the income statement, not merely a bigger sales headline.
The critical question is durability. A valuation that already demands strong execution makes the persistence of those economics more important than the excitement of the latest results.
Semiconductors: the silicon behind the buildout
- Semiconductor revenue
- $20.84 bn Q3 2026
Custom accelerators and networking are powering the semiconductor business. Broadcom benefits from selling the designs and connectivity needed for AI infrastructure while relying primarily on external manufacturing.
The vulnerability is concentrated demand. Distributor concentration in reported revenue is significant, but it describes the direct sales channel—not the identity or purchasing share of an ultimate hyperscaler customer.
Custom AI: a place inside the customer’s architecture
- AI semiconductor revenue, rounded disclosure
- $16.7 bn Q3 2026
- AI share of semiconductor revenue
- 80.1% Q3 2026
Custom AI places Broadcom inside a customer’s computing architecture, where design expertise can be more valuable than a broadly interchangeable component. Networking extends its participation beyond the accelerator itself.
Management’s rounded AI revenue disclosures describe activity within semiconductors, not an additional business to add to consolidated sales. The growth is powerful, but its concentration makes customer deployment decisions increasingly important.
Broadcom also backs a customer lease arrangement for custom-accelerator racks. That creates substantial contingent exposure outside recognized debt; the absence of a payment at fiscal quarter end does not eliminate the potential cash obligation.
Software: the second engine has its own economics
- Infrastructure software revenue
- $8.75 bn Q3 2026
Infrastructure software gives Broadcom an earnings engine with different demand drivers from silicon. VMware Cloud Foundation demand supports the case that the portfolio remains commercially valuable.
However, growth also includes additional upfront license revenue on contracts without termination rights. Those are reported sales, but not all are ratable recurring subscriptions; future growth must be assessed without assuming subscription-like smoothness.
The profit engine
Expanding consolidated operating margins are the clearest evidence of Broadcom’s economic strength. Revenue growth is translating into greater operating profit rather than being absorbed entirely by the cost base.
Keep the accounting boundaries intact: segment operating results exclude costs that belong in consolidated GAAP earnings. Management’s non-GAAP adjustments also exclude acquisition amortization, stock compensation and other items that should not automatically be dismissed as temporary.
Earnings without the optical illusion
- Other non-operating income
- $0.1 bn Q3 2026
- GAAP net income
- $13.09 bn Q3 2026
- Diluted weighted-average shares
- 4.89 bn shares Q3 2026
Improving GAAP diluted earnings are supported by stronger operating results, which is more persuasive than an earnings story built around non-operating income. Still, reported earnings are not a normalized recurring-profit forecast.
Acquisition-related amortization and stock compensation complicate comparisons with management’s adjusted measures. Shareholder value depends on earnings that survive those costs and dilution, not simply the most flattering presentation.
The cash bill
- Operating cash flow
- $40.65 bn TTM 2026-08-02
- OCF less cash PPE purchases, plus PPE sales
- $39.4 bn TTM 2026-08-02
- Quarterly operating cash flow
- $14.2 bn Q3 2026
- Quarterly cash CapEx
- $0.53 bn Q3 2026
- Company-reported quarterly FCF
- $13.67 bn Q3 2026
Cash generation is the strongest support for Broadcom’s quality rating. Reported operating cash flow has expanded while cash capital expenditure remains modest relative to cash produced, illustrating the appeal of its largely fabless design model.
Broadcom defines quarterly free cash flow as operating cash flow less cash capital expenditures. It does not deduct acquisitions, dividends or buybacks, so it is not the cash remaining after every capital-allocation decision.
The trailing cash measure subtracts cash property, plant and equipment purchases and adds proceeds from those asset sales. It should remain distinct from the company-reported quarterly definition rather than being treated as an identical series.
Our conclusion
Broadcom creates shareholder value by converting demanding chip designs and enterprise software into operating profit and cash without a heavy internal manufacturing burden. The thesis breaks if customer demand weakens, software growth proves timing-dependent or contingent support absorbs that cash.
This is a high-quality business, but not a curated high-conviction buy at the reference quote. Patience is an entry judgment, not a rejection of the franchise.
- Monitor whether AI accelerator and networking growth continues to support consolidated margins and cash flow.
- Separate VMware Cloud Foundation demand from upfront license recognition when assessing software durability.
- Track rack deployment, lease-guarantee exposure and any resulting cash payments alongside recognized debt.
